Bawoorrooga Education Project. In partnership with FISH – Foundation for Indigenous Sustainable Health

Phoenix Academy is proud to be in partnership with the FISH Foundation as the FISH-Bawoorrooga Self-Build Community Horticulture Initiative is driving change for the community for a more sustainable future.

A few weeks ago, we sent one of our trainers to teach our customised training course to trainees in the Bawoorrooga community. It is a community located in the remote East Kimberley Region of Western Australia. This course will enable the trainees to gain two units of competency under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework. They will be able to add to these units over time, eventually leading them to receive a Certificate II in Workplace Skills (BSB20120). Our trainer, Nevon Sasche, has been enjoying teaching the trainees. As of late, they have been enjoying classes outside, completing their tasks under the mango trees.

The main focus behind this initiative is to support & enable this community to drive their own change. In the Certificate II course, the trainees have access to caring trainers who guide their learning. They also have access to customised learning materials & a work environment where they can put their new skills into practice. All the best to our new trainees, and thank you to the FISH Foundation for letting us be part of this amazing initiative.
